Ntaria, more widely known as Hermannsburg, is a historic Indigenous community nestled in the Finke River valley, about 130 kilometres west of Alice Springs. This is a place where Arrernte culture and Lutheran missionary heritage intertwine, best known as the birthplace of renowned watercolourist Albert Namatjira. The red-earth landscape, dotted with ghost gums and the meandering Finke River, is both starkly beautiful and deeply spiritual. Visiting Ntaria offers a rare chance to engage with living Aboriginal culture, explore pioneering history, and see the stark desert scenery that inspired a generation of artists.
