Jatbula Trail

The Jatbula Trail is a 62-kilometer, five-day walk through the ancient landscapes of Nitmiluk National Park, tracing the traditional songlines of the Jawoyn people. This is one of Australia's great bushwalks, offering a deeply immersive journey through sandstone escarpments, monsoon forests, and hidden waterfalls. Unlike the more famous Larapinta Trail, the Jatbula is a point-to-point trek that rewards with swimming holes, rock art, and a genuine sense of remoteness.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allocate five days and four nights for the full 62-kilometer trek, walking an average of 12-15 kilometers per day. The trail is one-way, so you'll need to arrange transport to the start (often from Katherine) and pick-up at the end. Most walkers complete it between May and September, when temperatures are milder and water sources are reliable. Pace yourself to fully enjoy the swimming holes and side trips – this is not a race.
