Florence Falls is a stunning double-drop waterfall in Litchfield National Park, plunging into a crystal-clear plunge pool that's perfect for swimming. Surrounded by monsoon rainforest, this is one of the Top End's most iconic natural attractions, offering a refreshing escape from the heat.
Highlights & What to See
- Swim at the plunge pool – Cool off in the deep, clear water beneath the falls; it's one of the best swimming spots in the park.
- Walk to the top of the falls – A short, steep climb leads to a viewing platform with panoramic views over the escarpment and the cascading water.
- Florence Creek Walk – A 2.6 km loop that follows the creek through lush monsoon forest, with opportunities to spot birds and wildlife.
- Shady picnic areas – Several shaded tables near the carpark make for a great spot to enjoy lunch after your swim.
- Sunrise and sunset – The falls are less crowded early or late in the day, and the soft light makes for spectacular photography.
Suggested Time to Spend
Plan for at least 2–3 hours to fully enjoy the falls, including a swim and the short walks. Many visitors combine Florence Falls with nearby Buley Rockhole and Wangi Falls for a full day in Litchfield National Park. If you're on a self-drive itinerary from Darwin, half a day is sufficient to experience the highlights here.
