Fleurieu Peninsula

Just a short drive south of Adelaide, the Fleurieu Peninsula unfurls as a sun-drenched landscape of rolling vineyards, rugged coastlines, and sleepy beach towns. This is South Australia’s weekend playground, where you can sip cool-climate wines in the morning, swim in the turquoise waters of the Gulf St Vincent in the afternoon, and watch the sunset over the Southern Ocean from a clifftop lookout. Despite its proximity to the city, the peninsula feels a world away—a place where the pace slows, the air smells of saltbush and eucalyptus, and the locals greet you with a genuine smile.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Give the Fleurieu Peninsula at least three to four days to do it justice. Spend the first day exploring McLaren Vale’s cellar doors and olive groves, then base yourself in Victor Harbor for two nights. Use day two to hike Deep Creek and visit Goolwa, and day three to discover the quieter coves of the southern coast. If you’re short on time, a long day trip from Adelaide can cover the highlights, but you’ll be rushing. For a self-drive itinerary, loop from Adelaide through McLaren Vale, down to Victor Harbor, and back via the scenic Main South Road.
