Field of Light

As dusk settles over the red desert, a vast sea of softly glowing spheres awakens at the base of Uluru. Bruce Munro's immersive installation, Field of Light, transforms the arid landscape into a shimmering celestial garden. Over 50,000 solar-powered fibre-optic stems bloom in waves of colour, creating a surreal and deeply moving spectacle that feels both ancient and futuristic. This is not just an art installation — it's a pilgrimage into the heart of the Central Australian night.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for about 1.5 to 2 hours to fully absorb the experience. Arrive 30 minutes before sunset to secure parking and watch the desert transition from day to night. The light show itself lasts about 45 minutes, but linger longer to see the field change as the sky darkens. Most visitors combine this with a pre-dinner visit to the nearby Ayers Rock Resort.
