Flagstaff Hill is Wollongong's historic lookout point, offering sweeping coastal views where the escarpment meets the Tasman Sea. Once a signal station for ships, this grassy headland is now a perfect spot for a picnic, a short walk, or simply watching the surf roll in below. The 360-degree panorama takes in the city skyline, the Illawarra Escarpment, and on clear days, all the way to Sydney.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 30 minutes to an hour here – enough time to walk the loop, read the interpretive signs, and soak up the views. If you're combining it with a coastal walk or a picnic, allow up to two hours. Flagstaff Hill works well as a quick stop on a self-drive tour of Wollongong's coastline, especially between visits to the nearby beaches or the Sea Cliff Bridge.
