Broke

Broke is a sleepy, sun-drenched hamlet in the Hunter Valley wine region, where the pace slows to a crawl and the landscape is a patchwork of vineyards, olive groves, and grazing cattle. It’s a place for those who want to escape the crowds of Pokolbin and discover a more rustic, laid-back wine country experience. The village itself is tiny, but the surrounding area is dotted with family-owned wineries, farm gates selling fresh produce, and quiet country roads perfect for cycling or a leisurely drive.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Broke is best enjoyed as a relaxed half-day or full-day excursion from the main Hunter Valley hubs. Spend a morning visiting two or three cellar doors, stopping for lunch at the village store or a picnic among the vines. If you’re a keen cyclist or walker, allow a full day to explore the trails and rural lanes. Most visitors don’t stay overnight, but there are a handful of charming B&Bs if you want to extend your stay.
