Port Macquarie’s The Rocks is a dramatic coastal headland where the Hastings River meets the Tasman Sea. This wild stretch of shoreline is defined by its namesake boulders, sculpted by millennia of waves into a rugged, photogenic landscape. A network of walking tracks winds through coastal heath and past blowholes, offering uninterrupted ocean views and a chance to spot migrating whales between May and November. It’s a place where the raw power of nature takes centre stage, perfect for a bracing walk or quiet contemplation.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 1–2 hours for the main walking loop and time to linger at the blowholes and lookout points. If you’re a keen photographer or whale watcher, plan for a longer visit, especially around sunrise or sunset when the light is most dramatic. The walk is suitable for most fitness levels, though sturdy shoes are recommended on the uneven rocky sections.
