Stretching from Bondi to Coogee (and beyond), the Sydney Coastal Walk is a spectacular 6km cliff-top trail that delivers postcard-perfect views at every turn. This is Sydney at its most dramatic: turquoise coves, sandstone headlands, and the endless Pacific rolling in. It's an essential day out for anyone wanting to feel the city's raw coastal beauty without leaving the urban edge.
Highlights & What to See
- Bondi to Coogee section – the most famous stretch, with stops at Tamarama (aka 'Glamarama'), Bronte Beach with its ocean pool, and the wild rock platforms of Clovelly and Gordons Bay, perfect for a snorkel.
- Waverley Cemetery – perched on the cliffs, this historic cemetery offers hauntingly beautiful views and a glimpse into Sydney's past.
- Coogee Beach – the walk's end (or start), with a relaxed vibe, ocean baths, and great cafes for a well-earned coffee or fish and chips.
- Whale watching – from May to November, keep an eye out for humpbacks migrating past the headlands.
Suggested Time to Spend
Allow a leisurely 2–3 hours for the Bondi–Coogee walk, including stops for photos and a swim. You can easily extend it by continuing south to Maroubra (another 6km) or north to Watson Bay. Half a day is ideal to soak it all in, with time for a beachside lunch. The walk is well-signed and suitable for all fitness levels.
