Mooloolaba is the sparkling heart of the Sunshine Coast, where a laid-back beach town meets a lively esplanade buzzing with alfresco cafes, seafood restaurants, and boutiques. The sheltered Mooloolaba Beach is perfect for swimming and paddleboarding, while the Mooloolaba Spit offers panoramic ocean views. This is a place to slow down, savour fresh prawns at the wharf, and watch the sun sink into the Coral Sea.
Highlights & What to See
- Mooloolaba Beach – A protected, patrolled stretch of golden sand ideal for swimming, with gentle waves that suit families and stand-up paddleboarders.
- The Spit – Walk the breakwall to the harbour entrance for superb views of the coastline and a chance to spot dolphins or passing whales (June–November).
- Underwater World SEA LIFE – One of Australia’s largest aquariums, featuring an 80-metre ocean tunnel where sharks, rays and sea turtles glide overhead.
- Mooloolaba Wharf – Grab a table at a seafood shack and feast on Moreton Bay bugs, local oysters or fish and chips as fishing boats bob in the marina.
- Point Cartwright – A short drive north, this headland offers a lighthouse, coastal walking trails and a prime whale-watching lookout.
Suggested Time to Spend
Two to three days gives you time to relax on the beach, explore the aquarium and wharf, and take a day trip to nearby national parks. If you’re self-driving, base yourself here for a few nights and use it as a launchpad for the Sunshine Coast hinterland and Noosa. A single day is enough for a quick taste: swim in the morning, lunch at the wharf, and a sunset stroll along the Spit.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining
