Perched on a dramatic headland within the Hat Head National Park, Smoky Cape Lighthouse is one of New South Wales’ most photogenic coastal beacons. Built in 1891, this working lighthouse offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and the rugged coastline. The short walk to the lighthouse is a sensory delight – salt spray, the crash of waves, and the scent of coastal heath. It's a perfect stop for a picnic, a dose of maritime history, and a chance to spot migrating whales between May and November.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 1–2 hours to fully enjoy the lighthouse, take the walk, and soak in the views. If you're staying overnight in one of the cottages, you'll have time to explore the surrounding national park and relax on the quiet beaches. Most visitors combine a visit here with a half-day exploring the nearby coastal villages.
