Port Macquarie Lighthouse

Perched on a grassy headland at the eastern edge of town, Port Macquarie Lighthouse is a working navigational aid that also serves as a stunning lookout. The current lighthouse, built in 1880, replaced an earlier 1818 structure and still beams its light 27 nautical miles out to sea. A short walk from the car park brings you to the base of the white, tapered tower, where panoramic views sweep across the Pacific, the Hastings River mouth, and the long stretch of Town Beach. It’s an easy, rewarding stop that combines coastal scenery, maritime history, and a dose of fresh sea air.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 30–45 minutes to soak in the views and snap photos. If you’re doing the full Coastal Walk, budget 3–4 hours one way. Combine with a morning coffee from a local café and you’ve got a leisurely half-day outing.
