Killcare Beach is a secluded, north-facing stretch of sand on the Bouddi Peninsula, offering a peaceful alternative to the more popular beaches of the Central Coast. The beach is flanked by rocky headlands and backed by coastal bushland, creating a sense of wilderness just a short drive from Gosford. The gentle waves and protected swimming conditions make it a favourite with local families, while the Bouddi Coastal Walk passes along the clifftops above, providing stunning ocean views.
Highlights & What to See
- Swim and snorkel in the calm, clear waters – the beach is patrolled during summer holidays and is well protected from southerly swells.
- Walk the Bouddi Coastal Walk – a spectacular 8.5 km track from Putty Beach to MacMasters Beach that passes directly above Killcare Beach, with lookouts over the Hawkesbury River mouth and the open Pacific.
- Explore the rock platforms at the southern end of the beach at low tide, where you can spot sea stars, anemones and small crabs in the tidal pools.
- Visit the nearby Bouddi National Park – the beach is a gateway to this protected area, which offers more walking trails, picnic spots and the historic Bouddi Aboriginal engraving site.
- Enjoy a coffee or meal at the Killcare Surf Club café or the nearby Hardys Bay village, which has a general store and a couple of casual eateries.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors spend a half-day at Killcare Beach – a couple of hours for swimming and relaxing, plus another hour or two for a short walk along the coastal trail. If you plan to do the full Bouddi Coastal Walk (allow 3–4 hours one way), you could easily make a full day of it. The beach is also a lovely spot for a sunrise or sunset visit, especially when the light hits the headlands.
