Camden Haven National Park is a wild, coastal gem on the Mid North Coast, where lush rainforest meets dramatic sea cliffs and deserted beaches. It’s a place for true nature lovers — no cafes or souvenir shops, just the sound of waves, the call of lyrebirds, and the scent of eucalyptus. The park protects a stunning stretch of coastline between Laurieton and Port Macquarie, offering some of the most rewarding bushwalks in the region.
Highlights & What to See
- North Brother Mountain Lookout: A steep but spectacular climb through subtropical rainforest to a summit with 360-degree views over Camden Haven, the coast, and inland ranges. On a clear day you can spot whales during migration season.
- Kylies Beach: A remote, surf-pounded beach accessible only on foot via the Kylies Beach Track. It’s a wild, untamed stretch of sand perfect for a picnic and spotting sea eagles.
- Camden Haven River: The park borders this serene waterway, ideal for kayaking, fishing, or simply watching the reflections of the surrounding hills.
- Walking Tracks: The park has several well-marked trails, including the short Laurieton Rainforest Walk and the longer Camden Haven Walking Track, which connects to the coast. Keep an eye out for swamp wallabies and goannas.
- Birdwatching: The park is a haven (pun intended) for birdlife, including the rare glossy black-cockatoo and the colourful eastern whipbird.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors spend half a day to a full day exploring the park. If you’re keen on a challenging hike, allow 3–4 hours for the return trip to North Brother Mountain. For a more relaxed visit, combine a short rainforest walk with a beach picnic. If you’re staying in Port Macquarie or Laurieton, you can easily fit in a morning or afternoon here as part of a longer coastal road trip.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining
