Australian Reptile Park
Just north of Sydney, the Australian Reptile Park is a hands-on wildlife sanctuary that brings you face-to-face with some of the country’s most iconic (and venomous) creatures. Set in lush bushland, this park is famous for its daily reptile shows, free-roaming kangaroos, and the chance to hold a koala. It’s a perfect half-day trip for families and wildlife enthusiasts wanting an authentic Aussie animal encounter without the crowds of larger zoos.
Highlights & What to See
- Reptile & Spider Shows – Daily demonstrations where handlers introduce pythons, crocodiles, and the infamous funnel-web spider. The park is actually a venom-milking facility, so you’ll learn about lifesaving antivenom production.
- Koala Encounters – Get up close for a photo with a koala (included in entry) and learn about conservation efforts.
- Free-Roaming Kangaroo Zone – Walk among friendly eastern grey kangaroos and wallabies; feed them with provided pellets.
- Platypus & Echidna Exhibits – Spot these shy monotremes in specially designed nocturnal habitats.
- Dinosaur Garden – A fun, educational trail with life-sized dinosaur models that kids love.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors spend about 2–3 hours, which covers the reptile shows, a stroll through the kangaroo zone, and a visit to the koala area. If you want to linger for the feeding sessions or attend all shows, allow up to four hours. Arrive early to beat the crowds and catch the first show at 10:30am.
