Deep in the lush hinterland of the Port Macquarie region, the Sea Aces Rainforest Centre is a serene sanctuary where you can immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of subtropical rainforest. This family-run centre offers a gentle, educational experience, with well-maintained boardwalks winding through towering palms, fig trees, and vibrant birdlife. It’s a perfect antidote to the coastal crowds, giving you a genuine taste of the area’s ancient landscapes.
Highlights & What to See
- Rainforest Boardwalk – A 1.2 km loop through the canopy, with interpretive signs revealing the ecology of the forest. Listen for the whipcrack call of the eastern whipbird.
- Bird Aviary – Walk among rainbow lorikeets, king parrots, and other native species that may land on your shoulder. Great for kids and photographers.
- Nocturnal House – A dimly lit space showcasing the region’s night-time creatures, including possums, gliders, and the elusive tawny frogmouth.
- Reptile Encounters – Meet friendly pythons, blue-tongued lizards, and freshwater turtles during the daily keeper talks.
- Rainforest Cafe – Enjoy a coffee or light meal on the deck overlooking the treetops. The homemade scones are a local favourite.
Suggested Time to Spend
Plan for around 1.5 to 2 hours to wander the boardwalk, visit the aviary, and catch a keeper talk. If you’re a keen birdwatcher or want to linger over lunch, allow up to 3 hours. The centre is compact and easy to combine with a morning at the nearby beaches or a drive through the hinterland.
