Scotts Head is a sleepy coastal hamlet on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, where the lush green hills of the hinterland tumble into the Tasman Sea. This is a place for barefoot walks on uncrowded beaches, watching dolphins ride the swell, and soaking up the kind of quiet seaside atmosphere that has all but vanished from more developed resort towns. The main draw is the magnificent Scotts Head Beach, a long, arc of golden sand that is patrolled in season and offers excellent swimming, surfing, and fishing. The village itself is tiny – a handful of streets, a general store, and a pub – but that's precisely its charm.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Scotts Head is a perfect stop for a day or two. If you're on a coastal road trip, spend at least one night here to enjoy a sunset walk on the beach and a casual dinner at the pub. With two days, you can explore the headland, tackle a walk in Gaagal Wanggaan National Park, and have plenty of time to simply relax on the sand. It's also a great base for a longer stay if you want to combine it with nearby attractions like the Nambucca River or the historic town of Macksville.
