Trégastel
Trégastel is a charming seaside resort on the Côte de Granit Rose in Brittany, known for its extraordinary pink granite rock formations that tumble into turquoise coves. This is a place where nature sculpted a playground of balancing boulders, hidden beaches, and tidal islands, all bathed in the soft light of the Atlantic. The village itself is low-key and family-friendly, with a handful of crêperies, seafood restaurants, and a lively marina. It’s the perfect base for exploring the Pink Granite Coast without the crowds of nearby Perros-Guirec.
Highlights & What to See
- Plage de Coz-Pors – The main beach, a sweep of fine sand backed by a pine forest and dotted with giant pink boulders. Great for swimming and sunbathing.
- Sentier des Douaniers (GR34) – The coastal path here is spectacular, winding past sculpted rocks that look like animals and faces. The section between Trégastel and Ploumanac’h is unmissable.
- Île Renote – A tidal island accessible at low tide via a causeway. Explore its heathland, watch for seabirds, and enjoy panoramic views back to the coast.
- Aquarium Marin de Trégastel – A small but engaging aquarium housed in a natural cave, focusing on local marine life from the Breton coast.
- Oratoire de Saint-Guirec – A tiny 12th-century chapel perched on the rocks at Ploumanac’h, a short walk from Trégastel. It’s a beloved landmark and photo spot.
Suggested Time to Spend
Two to three days is ideal for Trégastel. Spend one day walking the coastal trail from the village to Ploumanac’h and back, stopping for a seafood lunch and a swim. A second day allows for island hopping (Île Renote and a boat trip to the Sept-Îles nature reserve) and a visit to the aquarium. If you have a third day, explore the nearby market towns of Lannion and Perros-Guirec, or drive inland to the forest of Beffou.
