Tour du Mont Blanc
Circling the Mont Blanc massif through France, Italy, and Switzerland, the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is one of the world's classic long-distance treks. Over roughly 170 kilometres, you'll traverse high Alpine passes, flower-strewn meadows, and ancient forests, with the ever-present dazzle of Europe's highest peak as your constant companion. This is a hut-to-hut hiking experience that blends mountain culture, cross-border culinary delights, and jaw-dropping scenery into an unforgettable two-week journey.
Highlights & What to See
- Col de la Seigne – The dramatic pass between France and Italy offers sweeping views of the Mont Blanc range and the Glacier des Glaciers.
- Val Ferret (Italy) – A serene valley with wildflower meadows, grazing cows, and postcard-perfect views of the Grandes Jorasses.
- Chamonix Valley – The trek's French starting point is a vibrant mountaineering hub with excellent cafés, gear shops, and the famous Aiguille du Midi cable car.
- Courmayeur – Italy’s chic alpine town, known for its thermal spas, gourmet restaurants, and relaxed après-hike atmosphere.
- Fenêtre d’Arpette – A challenging but rewarding variant with a narrow, rocky passage and staggering views of the Trient Glacier.
- Swiss Val Ferret (Switzerland) – Less crowded than its Italian namesake, this section offers tranquil trails and traditional wooden chalets.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most hikers complete the full circuit in 10 to 12 days, walking 6–8 hours per day. A common pace is to start in Chamonix, walk counter-clockwise through Italy and Switzerland, and return to Chamonix. For those with limited time, it's possible to hike a shorter section – for example, the Chamonix to Courmayeur leg (3–4 days). Plan for an extra rest day in Courmayeur or Champex-Lac to soak in the mountain vibes.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining

- Zermatt – Switzerland's iconic car-free village under the Matterhorn, reachable via the Mont Blanc Express train and a scenic drive.
