Tenia Islet

Tenia Islet is a tiny, uninhabited speck of coral sand and limestone rising from the turquoise waters of the Coral Sea, just off the coast of Norfolk Island. This protected nature reserve is a haven for seabirds and offers a raw, windswept beauty that feels a world away from the main island. Accessible only by boat, a visit here is an adventure for those seeking solitude, pristine snorkelling, and a glimpse of untouched Pacific island ecology.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for a half-day excursion (3–4 hours), including boat transfer time from Norfolk Island. The islet itself is tiny—you can walk its entire perimeter in 20 minutes—so the main draw is snorkelling and simply soaking up the isolation. Morning trips are best for calm seas and optimal visibility; afternoon winds can pick up. Most visitors combine Tenia with a boat tour that also visits nearby Phillip Island or Emily Bay.
