Tagaytay

Perched on the edge of a volcanic crater, Tagaytay offers one of the most dramatic landscapes in the Philippines: the perfectly symmetrical Taal Volcano rising from a lake within a lake. Just a couple of hours south of Manila, this cool highland escape is a favourite weekend retreat for its crisp air, panoramic views, and laid-back vibe. Come for the iconic vista, but stay for the hearty bulalo (beef marrow stew), coffee shops with a view, and the chance to explore the volcanic island up close.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors experience Tagaytay as a day trip from Manila, which is doable but rushed. To truly soak in the atmosphere, spend one night – arrive early, do the Taal Volcano boat-and-hike in the morning (allow 3–4 hours), then enjoy a leisurely afternoon at People's Park or a café. The next morning, grab a coffee with a view before heading back. If you're a hiker or photographer, two nights let you explore quieter trails and catch both sunrise and sunset over the lake.
