Sucre, Bolivia's constitutional capital, is a city of serene whitewashed colonial architecture and deep indigenous roots. Set in a valley at 2,810 meters, its well-preserved historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage site, where every cobblestone street and ornate church tells a story of Spanish and pre-Columbian fusion. The city's mild climate, vibrant markets, and laid-back atmosphere make it a perfect base for exploring the surrounding countryside.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most travelers find two to three days sufficient to explore Sucre's main attractions and soak up its atmosphere. Start with a walking tour of the historic center on day one, visiting the Casa de la Libertad and the main square. Dedicate day two to the Museo de la Recoleta and Parque Cretácico, which can be combined with a half-day trip to nearby villages. If you have a third day, consider a longer excursion to the Maragua Crater or the Tarabuco market (Sundays only). The city is compact and walkable, so you can easily pace yourself between sights and café stops.
