Standley Chasm is a dramatic sandstone gorge on the West MacDonnell Ranges, slicing 80 metres deep through ancient rock. The short, easy walk from the car park leads you into a cool, narrow chasm where the walls glow fiery orange when the sun is directly overhead – a photographer's dream moment. It's a quintessential Red Centre experience, easily accessible from Alice Springs.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 1 to 1.5 hours here, including the walk and a coffee break. If you're joining a cultural tour, allow 2.5 hours. The site is a perfect morning or late-afternoon stop on a day trip from Alice Springs – avoid the midday heat in summer (November to March).
