A sprawling green lung in the heart of Mendoza, Parque General San Martín is Argentina’s oldest public park, designed by the renowned landscape architect Carlos Thays. This 400-hectare oasis offers a refreshing escape from the city, with rose gardens, a lake, and the iconic Cerro de la Gloria hill crowned by a monumental bronze sculpture honouring General San Martín’s army. It’s a perfect spot for a lazy afternoon picnic, a jog, or simply soaking up the Andean backdrop.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Dedicate at least half a day to explore the park properly. Start early with a walk up Cerro de la Gloria (allow 30–40 minutes), then wander down through the rose garden and around the lake. If you’re cycling, you can cover more ground in 2–3 hours. Add an extra hour for the museum or a leisurely coffee at the lakeside café. Many visitors combine a morning in the park with an afternoon wine tasting in the surrounding Maipú region.
