Munda Biddi Trail

Stretching nearly 1,000 kilometres from Mundaring (just east of Perth) to Albany on the south coast, the Munda Biddi Trail is one of the world’s great long-distance off-road cycling routes. The name means ‘path through the forest’ in the local Noongar language, and that’s exactly what it delivers: a winding, mostly off-road journey through towering jarrah and karri forests, past granite outcrops, and along pristine rivers. Unlike its more famous cousin the Bibbulmun Track (which is for walkers), Munda Biddi is purpose-built for mountain bikers, though walkers and horse riders are also welcome on many sections. The trail is well-marked with a series of huts and campsites, making it feasible to ride self-supported or with vehicle support. Even if you only have a day or two, the trail offers superb sections for a taste of this epic adventure.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

The full trail takes most cyclists 10–16 days to complete, but you can easily break it into shorter sections. A popular 3–4 day trip is the Mundaring to Dwellingup section (about 200 km), or the Nannup to Pemberton loop (2–3 days). For a day ride, the 30 km section from Dwellingup to the Lane-Poole Reserve is manageable and rewarding. Plan your pace according to fitness and how often you want to stop for photos – the trail is graded moderate to difficult in places, with some steep climbs.
