Just 25 kilometres east of Perth, John Forrest National Park offers a refreshing escape into Western Australia's oldest national park. Named after the state's first premier, this 1,500-hectare reserve is a patchwork of granite outcrops, towering jarrah and marri forests, and seasonal waterfalls. It's a favourite for walkers, cyclists, and picnickers seeking an easy dose of wild nature without venturing far from the city.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

A half-day is enough for a short walk and a pub lunch, but dedicated hikers and cyclists can easily spend a full day exploring the trail network. Arrive early in summer to avoid the heat, and bring plenty of water – the park can get very dry. The best time to visit is between August and November when the waterfalls are flowing and wildflowers are at their peak.
