Perched dramatically atop a rocky crag in the Costa Blanca interior, Guadalest is one of Spain's most picture-perfect hill towns. Its fortress-like silhouette, carved into the mountainside, has guarded this valley for centuries. Today, visitors wander narrow cobbled lanes, explore a medieval castle, and gaze across the turquoise waters of the Guadalest Reservoir. Despite its tiny size, the village packs a punch with quirky museums and breathtaking views.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Guadalest is compact and can be seen in a half-day (2–3 hours), including the castle climb and a couple of museums. Most visitors arrive by car, parking outside the old town and walking in. Combine it with a morning or afternoon exploring the reservoir's shores or a nearby village. For a relaxed pace, allow a full day to also hike the surrounding trails or have a leisurely lunch at one of the viewpoints.
