Queensland’s Granite Belt Wine Region is a cool-climate surprise, a high-altitude plateau of ancient granite outcrops, national parks, and more than 50 wineries. About 2.5 hours south-west of Brisbane near the New South Wales border, this is the state’s premier wine destination, famed for its robust reds and crisp whites. Beyond the cellar doors, the region offers wildflower displays, quirky art galleries, and starry night skies that will make you want to linger.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Give the Granite Belt at least two full days to do it justice. Day one: explore Stanthorpe’s main street, visit a couple of wineries, and hike in Girraween. Day two: hit more cellar doors (try the lesser-known varietals like Fiano and Nebbiolo), pick some berries, and end with a long dinner at a vineyard restaurant. If you’re a wine enthusiast or hiker, add a third day to venture deeper into the national parks.
