Fitzroy Reef Lagoon is a pristine, turquoise-blue lagoon encircled by the coral cay of Fitzroy Reef, part of the southern Great Barrier Reef. Accessible only by boat, this sheltered marine sanctuary offers some of the most spectacular snorkelling and diving in the Capricorn-Caye group. With crystal-clear waters, abundant sea life, and a sense of utter seclusion, it’s a must for any reef explorer.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors arrive via day tours from Yeppoon or Great Keppel Island, spending 3–5 hours on the cay and in the lagoon. To truly appreciate the snorkelling and birdlife, aim for a full-day trip. For divers, liveaboard options or extended stays on Great Keppel allow for multiple dives. The lagoon is best visited during calm winter months (May–October) when visibility peaks.
