Faro de Pechiguera
Perched on the southern tip of Lanzarote, Faro de Pechiguera is a starkly beautiful lighthouse that marks the island's rugged coastline. This isolated beacon, with its whitewashed tower against black volcanic rock and deep blue Atlantic, offers a sense of raw, windswept solitude. It's a place where you can feel the power of the ocean and the island's volcanic origins, far from the resort crowds.
Highlights & What to See
- Pechiguera Lighthouse: This active lighthouse (not open to the public) is the focal point. Its bright white silhouette against the dark lava fields and turquoise sea is incredibly photogenic, especially at sunset.
- Volcanic Coastline: Walk along the dramatic cliffs and rock formations shaped by centuries of wind and waves. The contrast between the black lava and the vibrant blue water is stunning.
- Playa de Pechiguera: A small, dark-sand beach tucked near the lighthouse. It's less crowded than nearby Playa Flamingo, with calm waters perfect for a quick dip.
- Scenic Drives: The road to the lighthouse winds through the Los Ajaches volcanic landscape, offering panoramic views of the coast and the distant mountains of Fuerteventura.
- Sunset Views: This is one of the best spots on Lanzarote to watch the sun sink into the Atlantic, with the lighthouse adding a dramatic foreground.
Suggested Time to Spend
Half an hour to an hour is enough to explore the immediate area around the lighthouse, take photos, and enjoy the coastal views. Combine it with a visit to a nearby beach or a longer coastal walk. For sunset, arrive at least 30 minutes before the sun goes down to find a good spot and soak in the changing light.
