Echuca Wharf, on the banks of the Murray River in northern Victoria, is a living museum of Australia's riverboat era. The historic port, with its towering red-gum piles and restored paddlesteamers, evokes the 19th-century river trade that once made Echuca the largest inland port in the country. Today, it's a vibrant hub where you can step aboard century-old vessels, explore the wharf's original structures, and soak up the lively atmosphere of cafes, galleries, and riverfront walks.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allocate at least half a day to properly experience the wharf. Start with a one-hour paddlesteamer cruise (morning departures are quieter), then explore the Discovery Centre and wander the wharf. If you're keen, add a two-hour self-guided walk along the river or a longer cruise to the Barmah Forest. Combine with lunch at one of the wharf-side eateries. For a full immersion, stay overnight in Echuca and enjoy the sunset from the wharf.
