Casa de Montejo is a stunning 16th-century Plateresque mansion on Mérida's Plaza Grande, built by conquistador Francisco de Montejo. Its ornate stone facade—carved with conquistadors, lions, and indigenous motifs—tells the story of the region's colonial past. Inside, the restored mansion now houses a bank, but the courtyard and museum offer a glimpse into Yucatán's layered history.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allocate 1–2 hours to tour the museum and admire the facade. It’s compact, so you can easily combine it with visits to the cathedral and government palace in a single morning or afternoon. Go early to avoid crowds and catch the best light for photos.
