Ballarat Botanic Gardens, a 40-hectare Victorian-era oasis, is a highlight of any Goldfields itinerary. Established in 1858, these gardens are a living museum of 19th-century design, with sweeping lawns, ornate fountains, and a stunning collection of exotic and native plants. The crisp air, the rustle of leaves, and the distant call of birds make it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or a picnic away from the city bustle.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Set aside at least 1.5–2 hours to wander the gardens at a relaxed pace, taking in the highlights. If you plan to combine a visit with a walk around Lake Wendouree (a 6 km loop), allow 3–4 hours. The gardens are free to enter, so you can easily pop in for a short break during a day trip to Ballarat.
