Perched on the hills of Canberra, the National Arboretum is a sprawling living museum of rare and magnificent trees, offering sweeping views over Lake Burley Griffin and the city. This 250-hectare site is both a conservation haven and a stunning outdoor escape, where you can wander through forests of bonsai, cork oaks, and redwoods, or simply soak in the landscape from the dramatic lookout.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for at least two to three hours to explore the main highlights, though you could easily spend a half-day if you want to hike some of the trails or enjoy a leisurely picnic. The arboretum is spread out, so consider driving between sections or renting a bike to cover more ground. Morning or late afternoon visits offer the best light for photography and fewer crowds.
