Wave Rock

Rising 15 metres high and stretching 110 metres across, Wave Rock is one of Western Australia's most surreal natural wonders. This ancient granite formation, shaped by wind and water over 2.7 billion years, resembles a giant ocean wave about to break, frozen in stone. Located near the small town of Hyden, it's a must-see on any WA road trip, offering a striking contrast to the flat scrubland that surrounds it.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend about 2–3 hours exploring Wave Rock and the immediate attractions. If you're combining it with the nearby Humps and Mulka's Cave, allow half a day. To fully appreciate the area's geology and wildflowers, consider an overnight stay in Hyden, which also lets you catch the rock at sunset or sunrise when the light is most dramatic.
