High above the ancient rainforest floor, the Otway Fly is an exhilarating walk through the treetops of the Great Otway National Park. This steel-truss walkway and spiral tower take you 30 metres up into the canopy, offering a bird's-eye view of towering mountain ash, myrtle beech, and tree ferns. The highlight is the 45-metre-high Spiral Tower, which gives you a dizzying perspective over the lush green expanse. It's a must for nature lovers and anyone seeking a unique perspective on Victoria's temperate rainforest.
Highlights & What to See
- Treetop Walk: A 600-metre-long elevated walkway that weaves through the canopy, with interpretive signs about the ecosystem.
- Spiral Tower: Climb the 45-metre-high tower for panoramic views over the forest and, on clear days, all the way to the Southern Ocean.
- Zipline Tour: For adventure seekers, the Otway Fly also offers a zipline experience that sends you flying through the trees at speeds up to 20 km/h.
- Rainforest Floor Walk: After descending, take the short loop trail on the ground to see giant tree ferns, mossy logs, and the cool, damp understorey.
- Birdwatching: Keep an eye out for lyrebirds, rosellas, and the elusive superb fairy-wren in the surrounding forest.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors spend 1.5 to 2 hours here, which is enough to do the treetop walk, climb the tower, and stroll the ground-level trail. If you're adding the zipline tour, budget an extra 1.5 hours. The site is easily combined with a half-day drive from the Great Ocean Road or a day trip from the Otway region.
