Mossman Gorge is a lush slice of Daintree Rainforest, where crystal-clear water tumbles over ancient granite boulders and the air hums with the calls of tropical birds. Part of the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics, this gorge offers a quintessential Australian rainforest experience just a short drive from Port Douglas. The flowing Mossman River is cool and inviting, and the surrounding forest is a living museum of ferns, fan palms, and towering trees that have stood for millennia.
Highlights & What to See
- Mossman Gorge Circuit Walk – A gentle 2.4 km loop through towering rainforest, crossing suspension bridges over the river. Listen for the whip-crack call of the eastern whipbird.
- Swimming in the river – Take a refreshing dip in the clear, cool waters of the Mossman River. The main swimming hole is easily accessible from the car park.
- Dreamtime Walk – Join an Indigenous guide from the Kuku Yalanji people for a cultural tour that reveals bush foods, traditional uses of plants, and stories of the land.

Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors spend 1–2 hours walking the circuit and taking a swim. If you book the Dreamtime Walk, allow an extra 1.5 hours. The gorge is best visited in the morning when the light filters through the canopy and the crowds are thin. You can easily combine it with a day exploring the Daintree River or Cape Tribulation.
