Deep in the Northern Territory's red earth, the Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Park offers a cool, subterranean escape from the outback sun. These ancient limestone caves, formed over 500 million years, are a labyrinth of stunning stalactites, stalagmites, and delicate crystal formations. Guided tours reveal the caves' rich Indigenous history (the name comes from the Jawoyn word for 'many stars') and its unique ecosystem, home to rare ghost bats and orange horseshoe bats. It's a fascinating detour for anyone exploring the Red Centre.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Set aside 1.5 to 2 hours for the guided tour (which lasts about 45 minutes) plus time to explore the nature walk and picnic area. The caves are best visited in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. If you're driving from Katherine, it's an easy half-day outing.
