Pine Creek is a historic gold-mining town in the Northern Territory's Red Centre, with a population of around 300. It offers a glimpse into the region's gold rush past, with well-preserved buildings and a relaxed outback atmosphere. The town sits at the junction of the Stuart and Kakadu highways, making it a convenient stop for travellers exploring the Top End or heading south.

- Gold Panning – Try your luck at the Pine Creek Goldfields, where you can pan for gold in the creek. Equipment is available for hire, and the friendly locals are happy to share tips.
- Umbrawarra Gorge Nature Park – A short drive north, this scenic gorge offers swimming holes, birdwatching, and a peaceful bushwalk through monsoon vine forest.
- Douglas Hot Springs – About 30 km west, these natural thermal springs are perfect for a relaxing soak amid tropical vegetation. It's a popular spot for camping and picnics.
- Gunlom Plunge Pool – Located in Kakadu National Park (about 90 km north), this iconic waterhole with stunning views is worth the detour for a refreshing dip.

Most travellers spend just a few hours in Pine Creek, stopping for a meal or to explore the heritage precinct. If you want to do some gold panning or visit Umbrawarra Gorge, plan for half a day. To fully appreciate the area's natural attractions, including the hot springs and nearby Kakadu, allow at least one full day. Pine Creek is best combined with a self-drive itinerary between Darwin and Katherine or Alice Springs.
