Ansac Hill
Perched on the edge of Yulara, Ansac Hill offers one of the most rewarding vantage points in the Red Centre. This low, rocky rise is the go-to spot for watching the sun paint Uluru and Kata Tjuta in shades of ochre and violet, while the sprawling resort village of Yulara lies at your feet. It's a short, easy climb that rewards with big-sky panoramas and a profound sense of the ancient landscape stretching to every horizon.
Highlights & What to See
- Sunrise and sunset views – The hill's east-facing slope is perfect for dawn, when the first light ignites Uluru 20 km away. At dusk, the western aspect catches the last rays on Kata Tjuta.
- Panorama of Yulara – From the top, you can see the entire resort layout, including the town square, hotels and the airport runway – a useful orientation before exploring further.
- Interpretive signage – Plaques explain the cultural significance of the area to the Anangu people and point out key features of the surrounding landscape.
- Stargazing potential – After dark, the hill offers a low-light platform for viewing the brilliant southern sky, away from the main resort lights.
Suggested Time to Spend
Allow 30–45 minutes for the gentle 15-minute walk up and plenty of time to soak in the views. Sunrise visits are especially popular, so arrive 20 minutes before first light. If you're after a quick orientation stop, 20 minutes at the top is enough. Combine with a walk around the Yulara town square or a visit to the nearby camel farm for a relaxed morning.
