Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow at least 2 to 3 hours for a return trip, including time to explore Waikari Station and stretch your legs. The round-trip journey itself takes about 1.5 hours, so it's an easy half-day outing from Christchurch (just under an hour's drive north). If you're a rail enthusiast, consider timing your visit with a special event or a diesel-hauled service for variety.
