Ulladulla is a classic South Coast fishing town where the ocean meets a relaxed, creative community. With a sheltered harbour, excellent seafood, and easy access to pristine beaches and national parks, it's a perfect base for exploring the NSW South Coast. The town's working harbour is the heart of the action, with fishing trawlers bobbing alongside pleasure craft, and a daily fish co-op selling the freshest catch. The vibe is unhurried and welcoming, making it an ideal stop on a coastal road trip or a longer beach holiday.
Highlights & What to See
- Ulladulla Harbour & Breakwater: Watch the fishing boats come and go, then grab fish and chips from the takeaway shops. The breakwater offers easy ocean views and is a popular spot for a stroll at sunset.
- Ulladulla Lighthouse: Perched on the headland south of the harbour, this historic lighthouse offers panoramic views of the coast. It's a short walk from the car park.
- Warden Head Reserve: A coastal bushland reserve with walking trails, picnic spots, and a surf beach. Look out for whales during migration season (May–November).
- Mollymook Beach: Just a few minutes north, this long stretch of white sand is perfect for swimming, surfing, or simply relaxing. The northern end is patrolled in summer.
- Ulladulla Wildflower Reserve: A hidden gem with walking trails through heathland and forest, bursting with native flowers in spring.
- Boat Harbour: A small, protected beach just south of the harbour, ideal for families and snorkelling.
Suggested Time to Spend
Two to three days allows you to explore the town and its surroundings at a relaxed pace. Spend the first day wandering the harbour, visiting the lighthouse, and enjoying the beaches. Use the second day for a longer coastal walk or a trip to nearby national parks. If you're passing through on the Princes Highway, even a half-day stop is worthwhile for a harbour walk and a fish-and-chip lunch.
