Snowy River National Park

Thundering through remote gorges and wild alpine forests, Snowy River National Park is one of Victoria's most dramatic and least-visited wilderness areas. This is rugged, untamed country where the river has carved a deep limestone valley, creating sheer cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and pockets of ancient rainforest. For travellers who crave solitude and raw natural beauty, this park delivers an unforgettable outback-meets-alps experience.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

To properly experience the park's highlights, plan for at least two full days. Day-trippers can drive from the north (Jindabyne or Cooma) to McKillops Bridge, but you'll want a night or two to tackle the gorge walks or a section of the Snowy River Track. If you're doing the multi-day hike, budget 3–4 days. The best time to visit is spring (October–November) when the river is flowing strongly and wildflowers are out, or autumn (March–May) for stable weather and fewer flies. Summer can be scorching; winter brings snow to higher elevations but the lower gorges remain accessible.
