Nestled in the rolling green hills of north-east Tasmania, Scottsdale is the gateway to the state's lush timber country and the stunning Bay of Fires. This friendly rural town offers a genuine taste of Tasmanian country life, with a rich forestry heritage, excellent local produce, and easy access to some of the island's most beautiful coastal scenery. It's an ideal stop on a self-drive itinerary between Launceston and the north-east coast.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Scottsdale itself can be explored in a couple of hours, but you'll want at least a full day to visit the Bay of Fires and Bridestowe Lavender Estate. For a more relaxed pace, base yourself here for two nights: use one day for the coast and lavender, another for Barnbougle and local food stops. The town has a handful of motels and B&Bs, plus a good pub for a hearty meal.
