Kirribilli is a leafy harbourside enclave on Sydney's lower North Shore, offering some of the best water views in the city without the tourist crush. This quiet suburb is known for its grand Victorian homes, the official residence of the Prime Minister, and a relaxed village atmosphere. With a ferry wharf that puts you minutes from Circular Quay, Kirribilli is an ideal base for exploring Sydney Harbour while escaping the CBD's hustle. The weekend markets, waterfront parks, and excellent café scene make it a favourite among locals and savvy travellers alike.
Highlights & What to See
- Kirribilli House & Admiralty House – The official Sydney residences of the Prime Minister and Governor-General, set on manicured harbourfront lawns. You can't go inside, but the views from the adjacent park are superb.
- Kirribilli Markets – Held on the fourth Saturday of each month at Bradfield Park, this market is a treasure trove of antiques, vintage clothing, artisan food, and local crafts. A perfect spot for a morning browse with harbour views.
- Bradfield Park – A sprawling green space under the northern approach of the Harbour Bridge, offering postcard-perfect photo ops of the bridge, Opera House, and city skyline. Great for a picnic or sunset stroll.
- Cremorne Point Walk – A scenic 3.5 km harbourside trail from Kirribilli to Cremorne Point, passing lookout points, swimming spots, and historic houses. The views of the city from the point are breathtaking.
- Milsons Point Wharf & Luna Park – A short walk from Kirribilli, Luna Park is a vintage amusement park with its iconic grinning entrance. Even if you don't ride, the foreshore promenade and café are worth a visit.
Suggested Time to Spend
Half a day is enough to explore Kirribilli's highlights. Start with a ferry from Circular Quay to Kirribilli Wharf (it's a scenic 10-minute ride). Spend the morning at Bradfield Park and the markets (if it's market weekend), then stroll the Cremorne Point Walk. Grab lunch at one of the cafés on Broughton Street or at the Milsons Point precinct. If you have more time, combine it with a visit to Luna Park or a walk across the Harbour Bridge. The area is easily doable as a half-day trip from the city, but you could easily linger for a full day if you add a swim at one of the harbour pools.
