Jordan is a gritty, electric district on the Kowloon Peninsula that throws you headlong into the sensory overload of Hong Kong. It’s a place where neon signs buzz over street stalls, temple incense mingles with the scent of sizzling curry fish balls, and the frantic rhythm of Nathan Road gives way to quiet temple courtyards. For travellers, it offers an unfiltered taste of local life, brilliant street food, and affordable shopping — all within walking distance of the harbour.
Highlights & What to See
- Temple Street Night Market – This rambling market is the soul of Jordan after dark. Hunt for cheap souvenirs, watch fortune tellers at work, and feast on seafood, claypot rice, and egg waffles from the dai pai dong stalls.
- Tin Hau Temple – Tucked on a side street off Temple Street, this centuries-old temple is dedicated to the goddess of the sea. Its heavy incense, carved wooden boats, and quiet courtyard offer a serene contrast to the neon chaos outside.
- Nathan Road – Kowloon’s main drag, nicknamed the “Golden Mile,” is a dizzying corridor of electronics shops, jewellery stores, and neon signs. It’s best experienced at night when the city truly glitters.
- Kowloon Park – A surprising green lung in the midst of the concrete jungle. Stroll through the aviary, the Chinese garden, and the swimming complex — a welcome escape from the street crowds.
- Jade Market – Located on Kansu Street, this covered market is a fascinating spot to browse jade bangles, pendants, and carvings. Even if you don’t buy, the variety and energy are captivating.
Suggested Time to Spend
Jordan rewards a full day and evening. Start with a morning visit to Tin Hau Temple and the Jade Market, then explore Nathan Road and grab a quick lunch of wonton noodles. Spend the afternoon at Kowloon Park or hop over to the Hong Kong Museum of History (a short walk). As dusk falls, head to Temple Street Night Market for dinner and wandering — the atmosphere peaks around 8pm. If you’re on a tight schedule, a focused 4–5-hour evening visit still covers the market, a temple stop, and a street-food crawl.

- Mong Kok – Just north of Jordan, Mong Kok is the district for intense shopping: the Ladies’ Market, Goldfish Market, and Flower Market are all within a 15-minute stroll.
- Yau Ma Tei – Immediately adjacent, Yau Ma Tei is home to the Tin Hau Temple complex (different from Jordan’s) and the lively Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market.
- Hong Kong Island (Central & Wan Chai) – A quick MTR ride under the harbour or a 10-minute Star Ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui brings you to the island’s skyscrapers, bars, and historical tram rides.
- Kowloon Walled City Park – A 20-minute taxi or bus ride away, this serene park sits on the site of the infamous walled city and features beautiful Jiangnan-style gardens.
