Stretching along a pristine stretch of the Central Coast, Bouddi National Park is a pocket-sized paradise of coastal bushland, sandstone cliffs, and hidden coves. Just 90 minutes north of Sydney, this park offers a blissful escape where the bush meets the sea, with walking trails that deliver knockout ocean views and quiet beaches that feel a world away from the city.
Highlights & What to See
- Bouddi Coastal Walk – A spectacular 8.5 km one-way track that hugs the clifftops, passing through rainforest gullies and opening onto panoramic vistas of the Tasman Sea. Don't miss the boardwalk at Gerrin Point Lookout, where you might spot migrating whales (May–November).
- Putty Beach – A sheltered, patrolled beach perfect for swimming and kayaking. The adjacent campground makes it a favorite for overnighters.
- Maitland Bay – A secluded cove accessible only on foot or by water. The wreck of the SS Maitland (1898) is visible at low tide, adding a touch of maritime history.
- Indigenous Heritage – Look for Aboriginal middens and rock engravings near the Bouddi Coastal Walk, evidence of the Darkinjung people's deep connection to this land.
- Tallow Beach – A quieter stretch of sand with a gentle surf, ideal for a peaceful picnic.
Suggested Time to Spend
Allow a full day to do the park justice. Tackle the Bouddi Coastal Walk in one direction (park a car at each end or arrange a shuttle), which takes around 3–4 hours at a leisurely pace with stops for photos and swims. If you're short on time, a half-day loop from Putty Beach to Maitland Bay and back covers the best scenery in 2–3 hours. Campers should plan for an overnight stay to soak up the sunrise over the ocean.
